A fine tribal rug in the Qashqai manner
A deep indigo field carries a column of connected diamond medallions, each a concentric lozenge of red, gold and ivory, linked by a slender patterned pole and surrounded by small flowers, birds and a pair of little figures. An ivory border of leaves and boteh frames the design. The fine weave, the jewel like colour and the sure tribal drawing read as the work of a Qashqai weaver, most likely of the Kashkuli clan of the Fars tribes in southern Iran, among the finest of all tribal weavers. Refined yet full of life.
