This carpet is from the town of Ardebil in Azerbaijan, northwest Persia, and features a detailed geometric pattern. It is an old pattern called Herati, or fish design, named for the little motifs that resemble fish. Its precise origins are uncertain, but it is popular across many weaving areas.
