The beautiful colours of this amazing Persian Kashmar take the viewer immediately to autumn, when the little historic town of Kashmar and its surrounding countryside are at their most beautiful.
According to the great epic of the Shahnameh, Kashmar was home to the first Zoroastrian fire temple, built by the mythical King Vishtasp. The same tradition tells of the cypress of Kashmar, brought from heaven by Zarathustra and planted beside the temple.
Perhaps such antiquity inspired the creation of the pattern known as “Zirkhaki”, a name that evokes “buried treasures”.
The carpet was woven in the mid-20th century and remains in mint condition. Wool on a cotton base.
