A very unusual vintage Nain rug from the early 1970s. Instead of the customary single central medallion, its beautiful blue field is dominated by five medallions, framed by an attractive border. It is woven in fine-quality wool with silk highlights on a cotton foundation. Carpet weaving in Nain emerged from the town’s earlier aba-weaving tradition, and its characteristic blues, ivories and soft neutral tones reflect the colours long used in those finely woven woollen cloaks.
