A contemporary Persian collage created from fragments of old handmade carpets, bringing together different periods, regions, patterns and weaving traditions within a single composition.
Each fragment once belonged to another carpet and carried its own design, colours and history. Here, these pieces have been cut and carefully assembled into a new geometric composition, then overdyed in rich shades of indigo, turquoise, orange, green, magenta and charcoal. Traces of the original Persian motifs remain visible beneath the colours, giving the surface remarkable depth and texture.
The unusually long and narrow format makes this piece particularly suitable as a runner, while the irregular arrangement of the fragments gives it an almost abstract, modern-art quality.
What makes such collages interesting is the idea of giving old carpets another life. Rather than discarding worn pieces that can no longer serve in their original form, their most interesting fragments are preserved and transformed into something entirely new.
