SGD 1,800.00

This beautiful rug was woven in Khorasan, northeastern Iran, by Kurdish weavers whose ancestors were relocated from western Iran during the reign of Shah Abbas I in the early seventeenth century. Over the centuries, these communities lived alongside Baluch and Turkmen tribes, creating a rich cultural exchange that left its mark on their weaving traditions while preserving a distinctly Kurdish identity.

The design is centred around one of the most enduring symbols of Iranian culture, the boteh, a motif widely believed to have evolved from the stylised cypress tree. The cypress occupies a special place in Iranian history, mythology, and poetry. Revered since ancient times and celebrated in Persian literature as a symbol of beauty, grace, and everlasting youth, it became one of the most beloved motifs in Persian art and weaving.

Arranged in orderly rows across an ivory field, the botehs create a rhythmic and elegant composition. Their simplicity allows the beauty of the colours and drawing to take centre stage, while the finely woven structure gives the carpet a refined texture and remarkable clarity.

Woven from hand-spun wool and natural dyes, this rug is a beautiful expression of a tradition shaped by migration, cultural exchange, mythology, and poetry. Timeless in design and rich in meaning, it is a piece that can bring both beauty and cultural depth to an interior space.
