People who create hand-made rugs are often unknown. A carpet is created knot by knot by the hands of people who intertwine their feelings in every movement of their hand to give life to their weavings. That is the secret behind the beauty of Persian rugs, woven by love and created by beautiful minds.

The best part of my work is traveling and working with the most wonderful people. In this picture, I am making a few knots in Varanasi, India in 1999.

Many carpets radiate a feeling of calm and quiet, perhaps due to the therapeutic nature of weaving. Only the weavers could understand the feeling of letting go of all the troubles and tying knot after knot, letting your imagination fly and find peace.

The charm of many tribal rugs is due to the weavers’ life in simple ways and in nature. Often their rugs are creation of beautiful minds.
