Signed Tabriz Carpet with Omar Khayyam Verse. No-166271 (284x195cm)
“Drink not but with the wise”, a line attributed to Omar Khayyam, runs gracefully along the border of this magnificent Tabriz carpet. Poetry and weaving come together here in a quiet dialogue, reflecting a long Persian tradition in which literature, music, and the visual arts were deeply intertwined.
This carpet was woven in the mid 20th century using the finest hand-spun wool and natural dyes. The clarity of the design, the balance of colours, and the calm rhythm of the composition reveal the hand of an experienced master. Over decades of careful use, the colours have settled beautifully, and the texture has become increasingly pleasant, allowing the rug to age with dignity and grace.
The piece is signed by the master weaver Narvani, a figure known not only for his refined taste and skill in carpet making, but also for his mastery of music. This sensitivity to rhythm and harmony is felt throughout the carpet, lending it a composed and contemplative presence.
A distinguished Tabriz carpet that can continue to serve for many decades, bringing charm, cultural depth, and a sense of calm to a thoughtful interior.
