Kurds are natives of the western slopes of the Zagros Mountains and are widely regarded as descendants of the Medes, a people who have lived in the region since around 1200 BC. Their weaving traditions are among the oldest in Iran, and Kurdish kilims are admired for their strength, clarity of design, and cultural depth.

The kilim shown here is an outstanding example of this tradition. Woven over a hundred years ago, it displays remarkable colour harmony and a rich, tactile surface achieved through the use of hand-spun wool and natural dyes. The texture is lively and honest, and the colours have settled beautifully with time, giving the piece a presence that only age and quality materials can produce.

A rare and characterful kilim that reflects an ancient culture and a deeply rooted way of life.
