A Persian Mehravan from Heris area, No. 150012-296x228cm

SGD 3,900.00

Heris (Heriz) is a small town in the Azerbaijan province. The town and its nearby villages are renowned for producing some of the most durable and distinctive Persian rugs. The wool used in these rugs is of exceptional quality, naturally resilient and rich in character.

After dyeing, the yarns were traditionally washed in local mountain streams. The mineral-rich waters, influenced by copper deposits in the region, give the reds and other colours a distinctive depth and a slightly softened tone unique to Heris weaving.

Although the knots are relatively large, rugs from Heris and its neighbouring villages are celebrated for their strength and longevity. Their bold geometric patterns and powerful medallions give them a commanding presence, making them equally suited to refined interiors and everyday use.
