Arasbaran Caucasian Revival Rug, Chalaberd Design, By Abbas Nishaburi, 214×139 cm
Arasbaran Caucasian Revival Rug, Chalaberd Design, By Abbas Nishaburi, 214×139 cm
This rug is part of a collection we produced in the Arasbaran region. The wool was sourced from Kurdistan and hand-spun by elderly Kurdish women using fleece from the highlands of the Zagros Mountains. The yarn was naturally dyed in Shiraz at the workshop of the late Abbas Sayyahi, widely regarded as the pioneer of the revival of natural dyeing in Iran.
The weaving was carried out in Arasbaran, where skilled local weavers translated our ideas and designs, developed in our Tehran atelier, into this striking piece. The pattern is inspired by an old Caucasian design from the village of Chalaberd, reinterpreted here with balanced proportions and a refined palette. A robust, characterful rug with strong presence and timeless appeal.
Material: Hand-spun wool pile, natural dyes, cotton foundation
